Happy National Kiss Day!
I have always been a fan of kisses, ever since I was a little girl. My first kiss was me chasing a boy named Danny around the playground, grabbing him and smacking one hard on his lips or cheek, I can’t remember (I was five). I think he ran away crying. As I continued to grow older and read all my cheesy Christian romance novels, my love for kissing grew stronger, because in Christian books, that’s the climax of the story. That’s the moment you read for. When you get to THE kiss, you were like YES THEY FINALLY KISSED. You know, come to think of it, I would prefer to see one great kiss filled with passion and emotion with an amazing story behind it rather than two people randomly having sex in a movie. There’s just something about a really good kiss. Here is a list of my top 5 favorite movie kiss scenes:
- Mask of Zorro – Antonio and Catherine
I grew up watching Zorro, so I was pretty excited for the movie (starring Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta Jones) to come out in theaters in 1998. I was not disappointed. Why I love this kiss: There is already some good ST being built by this time (sexual tension). You believe that these two characters are intrigued by each other and want to know each other, in the Biblical sense. They flirted, they danced, and now, they must sword fight. Naturally pieces of clothing come off. Zorro taunts her with small kisses here and there, and then comes the big finale. When he has beaten her in swordplay and she is pretty much exposed, he gives her a deep, passionate kiss. This is really the best scene in the movie:
- Ever After – Drew and Dougray
This was an amazing adaptation of Cinderella. Classic. Wholesome. Moving. Everything a movie should be. Not like this Kristen Stewart Snow White crap. This movie actually had great actors and an engaging plot. Why I love this scene: The prince is already infatuated with her. She’s smart, cute, and feisty. The ST has been building up, she just rescued him from some gypsies and now they are camping out with them by the fire. Perfect time for a lip-lock. And what a lip lock it is! I couldn’t find a video with just this scene, but if you want to see it, just forward this one to 2:00. This kiss definitely made me feel all warm and gooey inside.
- Spiderman – Toby and Kristen
In this scene, not only does she get rescued by a super hero, but then she gets to do what no one has done before, kiss him up upside down. I love this kiss because it is completely original. Of course their kiss should be upside down, he’s Spiderman! It’s genius. Add some rain and you got yourself an awesome Natalie-approved kiss. Also, did I mention she gets to kiss a superhero?!
- Never Been Kissed – Drew and Michael
Apparently two of my favorite movie kiss scenes involve Drew Barrymore. Go Drew! Nice work picking some good movies. Now, of COURSE this kiss had to be good. The whole plot was centered around her first kiss. She didn’t want to go around kissing a bunch of losers to get to him. So she saved her saliva for Michael Vartan. I approve. So there she is, curls intact waiting for Michael to run up to her and give her the kiss of a lifetime. Why I love this kiss: It was shot perfectly. The background becomes hazy, just like it would through her eyes. “Don’t Worry Baby” by the Beach Boys starts playing, and they do a great shot where the camera circles around them so you can see every angle of their perfect kiss. It’s not a gross tongue fest either, it’s just perfect.Start watching at 7:00
- First Knight – Richard and Julia
This was probably the most passionate kiss I was witnessed to when I was, oh I don’t know, eight. I remember my sister and I would rewind this kiss over and over again. I even think we watched it in slow motion and were awed/a bit disgusted when we saw Richard’s tongue being thrashed into Julia’s mouth. This movie is definitely on my list of top ten films. If you haven’t seen it, see it. If you are doubting movies and don’t know if you can bear to watch another Snow White and Huntsman fiasco, then watch this movie. It will restore all hope. It has everything you want: adventure, romance, battles, suspense, fighting scenes, and Sean Connery. In all my movie experiences, I don’t think a kiss scene has affected me more than this one. You can just FEEL the passion. He freaking loves her. It’s awesome.
And my favorite real kiss:
My first kiss with Alexander, I have to admit, I don’t really remember all that well. I just remember it being awesome and everything I hoped it would be. Since I can’t kiss him today, I will send him a virtual one.
